Description:

Children with developmental difficulties and social work. Integration concepts and social model. Integration of the children with developmental difficulties into the community. Support to integration and inclusion of children with developmental difficulties in the system of education. Specific features of integration with regard to individual types of developmental difficulties of children. A child with developmental difficulties in local community. Early intervention and social work in the integration of children with developmental difficulties into society. Role of social work in multidisciplinary approach and team work in supporting the child with developmental difficulties and his family. Leisure time and children with developmental difficulties. Forms of support to the integration of children with developmental difficulties on all levels of society.

Cognitive Skills:

Knowledge and understanding

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- define types of developmental difficulties in children in accordance with legal framework;

- explain theoretical approaches to individual models of disability;

- explain variability of individual models of disability in the context of Croatia;

- critically evaluate and recognise the role of legal framework in the care for children with difficulties and his or her family;

- explain outcomes of the application of legal framework for the famiyl and child with difficulties.

 

Application

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- group and describe types of difficulty in the development of children with difficulties;

- understand the position of the child and family throughout history and today;

- apply the knowledge about consequences that the child with developmental diffioculties brings to the family and local community;

- understand the importance of the role of social worker as a coordinator of safety network for the child and the family.

 

Analysis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- interpret types of developmental difficulties;

- analyse legal framework and its orientation towards the child's position;

- compare the role of family for the child and the role of alternative forms of care;

- analyse different types of service that exist within the systems of social welfare, health care and education

 

Synthesis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- propose innovative topics for scientific research and practical work within social welfare system;

- formulate causes, procedure and desired outcomes for the child and the family;

- prepare a plan of application on local level;

- prepare group analysis of a specific topic.

 

Evaluation

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- compare advantages and disadvantages of individual models and approaches to children with difficulties;

- evaluate the role of the law, local community and family in stimulating full development of the child;

- assess the role of early intervention and multidisciplinarity in the approach to social, health and educational inclusion of the child;

- conclude about the role of the social worker in a multidisciplinary approach to the child and family.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- independently research a specific topic

- publicly present acquired learning outcomes

- critically analyse existing measures, roles, relations and coordination of services

- propose new ideas

- develop communication skills

- participate in team work

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

- interpret and analyse types of difficulties (essay type questions)

- analyse legislative framework and its direction towards the position of the child (problem tasks)

- analyse different types of services that exist within the framework of socieal securit, health care and education systems (presentation and iinteractive discussion, questions of an essay type)

Criteria for testing knowledge and skills: written and/or oral examination, essay, presentation of a selected topic in the group

Students who regularly attend classes can prepare a topic of their choice, present it, write an essay in the form of critical review of the topic in which they independently analyse, compare, evaluate and conclude about a certain topic by analysing the existing situation and obtained results of research work.

Student who take examination in regular examination periods - written and/or oral examination.
