Concept of International Organizations Law. Sources of International Organizations Law. Concept of international organizations. Historical development of international organizations. International legal personality of international organizations. Membership of international organizations. Organs of international organizations. Acts of international organizations. Internal law of international organizations. Privileges and immunities of international organizations and international officials. International organizations and responsibility in international law. International organizations and dispute settlement. Reactions of international organizations to internationally wrongful acts. Financial issues of international organizations. Amendments to constituent instruments ("constitutions") of international organizations. Termination of international organizations and issues of succession. International non-governmental organizations. Relations between international organizations. United Nations Law. Specialized agencies of the United Nations. Regional organizations.

Knowledge and understanding

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- identify theories about subjectivity of international organisations and types of international organisations;

- define legal terms from the area of law of international organisations;

- explain legal institutes connected with international organisations and recognise their connection and integration in the international law system.

 

Application

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- group and describe legal institutes connected with international organisations;

- apply relevant international law norms to concrete examples from international practice;

- illustrate the importance of international organisations for the stability of international order and deepening the cooperation among the states and other subjects of international law.

 

Analysis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- analyse processes of origin of international organisations as subjects of international law and relevant international law norms;

- differentiate relevant international law institutes considering different types of international organisations, and compare the scope of legal norms with regard to categories of international organisations;

- categorise international law norms concerned with international organisations,

- examine the application of international law norms concerned with international organisations to concrete facts in international practice.

 

Synthesis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- construct the connection between individual legal institutes relevant for international organisations and their integration in the overall international law system;

- formulate conclusions about the significance of international organisations for the development of relations in modern world order.

 

Evaluation

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- evaluate the significance of international organisations for the stability of world order;

- estimate specific characteristics of international organisations as an international law subject different from the states;

- assess theimportance of membership of the Republic of Croatia in different international organisations,

- evaluate the efficiency of international law norms concerning international organisations.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will gain competences that enable them to analyse international law rules related to international organisations and their proper evaluation. At the same time, the students should be able to resolve problem situations connected with international law position of international organisations by the application of adequate legal norms. Gained skills will enable the students to appropriately use relevant international documents of normative content (treaties, particularly constitutive acts of international organisations, court and arbitral decisions, resolutions etc.)

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge is tested on the basis of an oral examination.

Oral examination, which is obligatory for all students, consists of testing the understanding of theories on subjectivity of international organisations, and legal terms and institutes related to international organisations. Connection and comparison of legal rules and institutes, as well as evaluation of applicability of international law norms related to international organisations regarding modern international practice is expected.
