Career and Area of Expertise:

Since 1991 employed at the Study Centre of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb at the position of young researcher. From the beginning of the work he specializes for the field of social work community organizing and development. In the frame of this field work participates in different scientific projects inside discipline of social work and social policy. During the nineties actively included in different professional project aimed to the help of children victims of war as well as in studies of psychosocial consequences of the war. Actively included in cooperation with numerous domestic and foreign nongovernmental organizations which conducted projects of psychosocial help for war victims in the Republic of Croatia. Actively collaborates with the HAN University from Nijmegen, the Netherlands in realization of international project titled “Community Development Work in Croatia, education for students and professionals in social work” as well as with the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge in realization of the project titled „Preparing for deinstitutionalization in Croatia“. Since 1991. constantly participates in teaching of different subject at the Faculty of Law, Study Centre of Social Work, University of Zagreb. Beside his main field of community work he conceived and introduced in the educational program of the Study Centre of Social Work subjects of Social Work Ethics, Social Work inside the Social Care System, International Social Work and Social Work and Human Rights. At the level of undergraduate and graduate studies he teaches also at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation the subject titled Social-Law Basics in Education and Rehabilitation of the Persons with the Eyesight Problems as well as at the Department of Social Work, Faculty of Philosophy, University Of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina the subject titled Contemporary Social Work Theories. Under his mentorship dozens of students graduated till now and he was the mentor for masters and doctoral thesis. During his work as scientist and teacher he participates as holder or as guest professor in the teaching of different subject at the MA and PhD studies organized by the Study Centre of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, University of Zagreb, Medical Faculty, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo and MA Comparative European Social Studies Zuyd University of Applied Sciences Maastricht and London Metropolitan University. He is the founder and leader of the new established postgraduate specialist study titled Social Work and Community Development at the Study Centre of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb. He is founder and one of the leaders of the summer school titled „Social Work and Community Development“ carried by the Study Centre of Social Work, Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb and the Centre for Civil Initiative Zagreb.

Practical experiences and research results were the integral parts of his MA thesis titled „Children Victims of the War. Action Approach to the Realizing of the Project of Psychosocial Help for the Children Victims of the War“ With his doctoral thesis titled „Community Organization in the Preventing of Disturbances of Behaviour of Children and Young Ones“ he gave significant contribution to the development of the theory and methodology of organization and development of local communities in the Republic of Croatia.

So far he published dozens of scientific and professional papers from the field of social work theory and methodology.

He participated at more than 70 different international and domestic scientific and professional conferences and gave a number of presentations also as the invited speaker.

On the short study trips he was in the most of the european countries as well as in the USA and Canada.   

He is the member of the several domestic and international professional association.

Actively speaks German and English language. He is the father of two sons.

As associate he is involved in the educational projects of different nongovernmental organizations. He is founder and president of the NGO named Sociativa Nova which deals with the development of the social services quality. He is the member of the steering commitee of the Association for the Promotion of Inclusion from Zagreb and president of the steering commitee of the Social Care Center of the City of Zagreb. He is one of the course director at the social work course at the Inter University Center Dubrovnik. From the beginning of his professional career he participates in the work of several domestic and international professional commities and commissions mainly in the field of social work, social care and social policy.

During his term of office of the state secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare inside his responsibility gave significant contribution to the conceptualization of the reform of the social care system of the Republic of Croatia. His scope of work included drafting and implementing of the domestic and international social legislation including the field of protection and promotion of human rights. During his career he established wide network of contacts with the representatives of different domestic and international governmental and nongovernmental organizations as well as higher education institutions. Since 2011. he is the member of the Executive Commitee of the European Association of Schools of Social Work.
