Cognitive Skills:
After completion of practical work, students will be able to:
1. Connect observed characteristics of social workers' practice with theoretical approaches in comunity work
2. Recognise techniques and skills which social workers use in their practical activity in the community
3. Explain the reasons for using individual procedures by social workers-mentors with regard to observed problems in the local community in which they act
4. Critically analyse professional actions of social workers-mentors with regard to slocal community stakeholders
5. Organise a context with other stakeholders in the community
6. Identify their own capacities for practical social work in the community
7. Prepare a full report about practical training combining acquired knowledge, practical insights and own experiences according to previously determined elements
8. Describe and compare their wxperience of practical training in a common group discussion with other students and the teacher
Practical and Generic Skills:
- Ability to manage new situations and different professional context
- Ability to establish communication in the professional community with social workers
- Ability to agree on the manner of work and time disposal with the mentor taking into consideration educational background, set patterns of practice and real circumstances and possible restrictions in which social workers operate
- Ability to self-reflect oneself as a social worker in the observed practical context
Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:
Practical training is conducted in the duration of three working weeks after the end of winter semester.
During practical trainig with the help of an instructor (social worker) students will:
1. learn about the activity of social worker in an institution where the practical training is organised
2. go to 'field trips' together with the social worker and keep records about it
3. learn about the type and characteristics of a geographical area the student visited during practical trainig and give a short overview of it
4. be present in activities that social workler conducts within the area of his/her competence
5. get acquainted with the operation and manner of work of an institution/civil society organisation in the activities of planning and influencing the problems that occur in the local community
6. get acquainted with the operation and manner of work of an institution/civil society organisation in cases of possible crises, such as violence in the family (for the family not included in the measures of family law protection), natural hazards etc.
7. learn about the work of other professionals within the institution/civil society organisation and other stakeholders in the community
8. learn about existing and potential forms of cooperation with other relevant institutions and organisations in the community (school, police, health services, nongovernmental organisations etc.) and report about at least one example of such cooperation
9. learn about the most important social problems in the community and prepare a short proposal of a program for prevention of existing problems with a critical review of the existing and possible role of an institution/civil society organisation in the function of the development of local community
