Description:

Historical development of civil society. Terminological analysis of civil society: non-profit sector, volunteer sector, common good. Associations, foundations, private public benefit organizations, cooperatives. Role of civil society organizations within social policy. Development of civil society organizations in Croatia. Cooperation between the state and the civil society organizations within civil sector. Role of civil society in decentralization process, self-organizing and self-regulation.

Cognitive Skills:

After successful mastering of the course, students will be able to:

- explain and distinguish concepts and legal framework of establishment and operation of civil society organisations

- publicly discuss the role of civil society in modern societies with certain competences

- interpret current realisations about the features of socio-cultural and historical development of civil society in Croatia

- evaluate and conclude about the role of civil society in the processes of decentralization, Europeanization and self-organizing in Croatia

- assess the features of the cooperation between civil society and the state and economy, and mke conclusions about the challenges and advantages of the cooperation on the basis of an insight into empirical research

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successful mastering of the course, students will gain:

1. ability to efficiently participate in team work

2. ability to independently present professional contents to a wider audience

3. ability to promote and advocate the principles of self-organization and practising civil society values in society

4. empowered personal values of active citizenship, advocating, volunteering and civil participation in society
