After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

Define international labour and social security law and its relation to labour, security, public international, private international and European public law. It especially applies to sources of international labour law and social security (treaties and recommendations) and organisations which participate in making that law (the United Nations, International Labour Organisation, Council of Europe, European Union).

Explain the historical development of international labour law and social security. Social , economic and political significance of international labour law and social security. Main characteristics of international sources of labour and social security law, and mechanisms of controlling the application of legally binding sources. The relation between sources of international labour and social security law and acqui communitaire.

Indicate international mechanisms of protection of human rights relevant for labour and social security law.

Recognise which treaties belong to the area of international labour and social security law and which rights are protected by them.

Critically evaluate proposals for ratification of certain international treaties or other legally binding documents relevant for the area of labour and social security law; scope of accepting the undertaken international obligations from the area of labour and social security law.

Discuss legal, social, economic, political and other aspects of the application of treaties and other legal sources important for labour and social security law.

Report about the problems of respecting the obligations undertaken by the ratification of treaties that regulate issues from the area of labour and social security law.

Recommend a ratification of a treaty, change of legislation or practice of application of a treaty in national law.

Reexamine the practice of appplication of obligations froma treaty in national law.

Compare legal, social, economic, political and other consequences of the ratification and application of a certain treaty from the area of labour and social security law.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will understand and be able to explain different sources of international labour and social security law and the development and significance of international organisations withinwhich these sources were created. They will dsistinguish among the control mechanisms for the application of ratified treaties and be able to prepare reports about the application of treaties. They will be able to make proposals about the ratification and application of certain treaties from the area of labour and social security law. They will be trained to prepare necessary analyses and for presenting their results. They will be trained to particiapte in the work of, and possibly for managing, units of state administration bodies, trade unions and employers' associations in charge of monitoring the application of treaties that regulate employment and social rights.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge is tested by oral examinations.

It consists of testing the understanding of sources of labour and social security law and mechanisms of controlling their application, reproduction of historical development and organisational structure of international organisations that participate in making of international labour and social security law, comparison of legal nature of various sources of international labour and social security law, demonstrating the ability to interpret and apply relevant sources of law to the solution of certain legal issues and problems and evaluation of individual legal solutions considering their contribution to the realisation of obligations that derive from international sources of labour and social security law.
