The focus of LSP course in the third semester is to make students familiar with the civil law codification in the Federal Republic of Germany, based on the German Civil Code (Buergerliches Gesetzbuch - BGB). During the third semester students deal with the question of legal representation in a legal business, with the prerequisites for acquiring legal capacity, with contractual relations, with the grounds for contract voidability, for civil liability and with the divorce procedure in Switzerland. The six units in this semester include: Introduction to Civil Law, Legal Businesses in relation to Legal Capacity, Contract Obligations and an Example of a Rental Contract, Legal Liability as defined in Swiss Law and finally Family Law and the Institute of Divorce in the Swiss Legal System.
Students are encouraged to compare legal regulations related to the mentioned legal matters in Croatia and in German speaking countries. Besides working on single legal terms, collocations and multi-word expressions, students practice syntactical structures that are frequent in German language of law (e. g. conditional clauses, quotations using of reported speech). Students work in pairs or smaller groups and have a chance to analyse concrete cases and situations in order to explain relevant legal regulations.
