Description:

The course English for Public Administration II deals with the topics related to the organization of government.
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the organization of government and the role of the legislative, executive and judicial branch by analyzing various types of texts. Organization of government in the RC and UK are compared.
Police powers and the role of the police are analyzed. International law and diplomacy are discussed using relevant terminology in the English language.
Within every topic students complete numerous exercises related to terminology, collocations, word formation and translation skills.
Special attention is paid to the acquisition of terminology and the development of communication skills. Students are encouraged to work independently and further research the discussed topics and prepare their own presentations.

Cognitive Skills:

- define types of political systems

- explain the role and functions of the legislative branch and legislative procedure

- explain the role and functions of the executive branch

- explain the role of the judicial branch and the hierarchy of courts in the Republic of Croatia

- enumarate police powers and explain the role of the police in modern society

- define international law, sources of international law and diplomacy

- discuss the importance of diplomatic relations

Practical and Generic Skills:

present the acquired learning outcomes in English;

use appropriate language structures and terms in discussing the relevant topics;

develop communication skills in English;

participate in team work in the preparation of presentations in English.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

the learning outcomes are tested by written exercises, an oral examination and student presentations delivered in class
