Description:

The obligatory course German for public administration involves in the fourth semester the following themes: modernisation of public administration, e-government, administrative law, acts of public administration and administrative courts. Students deal with the concept and development of new public management - NPM, division of administrative law, with types of administrative acts and with jurisdiction of administrative courts.

Besides working on single legal terms, collocations and multi-word expressions, students practice syntactical structures relevant for the understanding of academic texts. Students are expected to regularly prepare tasks within every unit and to actively participate in the class work.

Cognitive Skills:

discuss reasons for the modernisation of public administration (costs, efficacy, optimisation)

describe the aims and strong points of e-administration, based on the example of the town of Hamburg

name main institutions of the European Union and their powers

define administrative law and the relations regulated by it

report about the development of administrative acts, provide types and examples

define the role and scope of activities of administrative courts

Practical and Generic Skills:

develop the ability of understanding a text from a specific field of expertise in the foreign language

develop the ability of written and oral communication in the foreign language

take part in group and pair work

present results of group / pair work

prepare independently a short presentation
