Description:

The purpose of the course German for Public Administration in the first semester is to make students familiar with specific features of language for specific purposes as opposed to the language of general communication. As a preparation for the work on topics from the area of public administration the first semester themes include: the concept and structure of a state, legal system and different fields of law, constitutional values and principles of the Republic of Croatia and of the Federal Republic of Germany. Following those introductory themes the definitions of public administration and of administrative science and its development are discussed.

Besides working on single legal terms, collocations and multi-word expressions, students practice syntactical structures relevant for the understanding of academic texts and professional documents. Students are expected to use their linguistic and general knowledge in comparing Croatian and German state system and system of public administration.

define the concept of state and constituent elements of state

explain the concept of law and legal norm

explain constitutional legal basis and the structure of the state power in the Republic of Croatia

compare the state structure in the Republic of Croatia and the Federal Republic of Germany

define the concept of public administration as a part of executive power

describe the subject matter of the science of public administration

develop the ability of understanding a text from a specific field of expertise in the foreign language

develop the ability of written and oral communication in the foreign language

take part in group and pair work

present results of group / pair work
