Description
English for Law III is third in the series of compulsory courses of English for the legal profession. This course focuses on the legal terminology particular to specific areas of law. The content is based on English law, while some material and activities draw comparisons with the Croatian legal system. The chapter on criminal law introduces the basics of substantive and procedural criminal law. The unit on tort law presents a classification of torts, while a number of torts are dealt with in more detail, including the procedural aspects of tort litigation. A special part is dedicated to negligence, which is a frequent cause for litigation in English law. The chapter on contract law discusses the essential elements of contracts, contract formation and typical clauses found in commercial contracts. Also, legal remedies for breach of contract are presented. The chapter on family law introduces the rules of marriage, civil partnerships and the end thereof under English law. In the chapter on company law, the basis types of business organisation are presented. Finally, the employment law chapter discusses the notion of employment, types of employment contracts, some examples of employment law disputes and possible remedies. Each unit is accompanied by authentic texts which help broaden the knowledge on the presented topics, whether in class activities or as self-study material.
