Professor Hrvoje Sikiric, Chair of UNCITRAL, speaks at the meeting of high representatives of the UN General Assembly - "The rule of law at the national and international level"

Professor Hrvoje Sikiric, Vice Dean for International Cooperation of the Law Faculty in Zagreb, spoke as the Chair of the 45th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCTIRAL) at the meeting of high representatives of the General Assembly which was held on 24 September 2012 in New York. He presented the views of UNCITRAL on the promotion of the rule of law at the national and international level.

In his speech, Professor Sikirić pointed out that the rule of law at the national and international level can not be limited only to public international law, human rights, criminal law and the supranational justice, but it also includes the recognition and realization of property rights and contracts, the guarantee of legal certainty necessary for the promotion of entrepreneurship, investment and job creation, and the ability of states to realize the fundamental legal principles such as the right to a fair and transparent legal infrastructure. Professor Sikirić stressed that the promotion of the rights of the Trade Practices Act has become, as the General Assembly on numerous occasions confirmed, an integral part of the broader agenda of the United Nations to promote the rule of law at the national and international level.
